Upton Victory Hall has a well-hidden resource:
a highly successful Croquet Club.
UVH Croquet Club are a thriving and vibrant club with both full and associate members (the latter limited to playing ten times per year). We also have non-playing social members who take part in both summer and winter activities.
We play Golf Croquet Upton style.
The summer season starts in March and lasts through until October. We play seven days a week, with general play starting at 1.30 during weekdays and 10 a.m. at weekends until dusk. During Winter, we have access to one lawn whilst the other three are prepared for the new season
Our four croquet lawns are in superb condition in very pleasant surroundings, ably maintained by our full-time groundsman. We also have on site car parking near the club room and greens.
We have a number of trophy cup tournaments within the club and regular weekly match tournaments, both singles and doubles
Social section – a varied programme of activities is held throughout the Winter including mah-jong, bridge, whist, scrabble, and table tennis. Our ‘social’ members are also invited to join in some of the summer activities e.g. Finals Day.
There is an opportunity for those interested in playing croquet to ‘have a go’ in the summer season by contacting the club secretary who will arrange play with a club member (see contact details). No previous knowledge is required as we will provide full tuition. We are looking for new members and you don’t have to be particularly fit or agile to enjoy a game – we have members playing well into their nineties. Indeed, with this form of ‘gentle’ outdoor exercise we may even help you to get fitter.
We also have a number of mallets for general use so you don’t need to buy one to join us – although you may wish to when you have played for a while and realised how much you enjoy playing.
We have a comfortable club room with excellent facilities, having views over one of our beautiful croquet lawns.
We make all visitors to the club very welcome.
