Welcome to Upton Victory Hall Lawn Tennis Club

Our Courts are open again following the UK Government's relaxation of restrictions effective from 29th March 2021.

The following LTA Covid Safe tennis guidelines can be found online:  Corona Virus latest

Winter tennis in Upton Village (and see our new joiners offer below)
Upton Tennis club, Rake Lane, Wirral is well suited for tennis throughout the year, as we have 8 courts of which 4 are astroturf.  3 of our 4 astroturf courts have been replaced and are now bedded in.  Our 4 grass courts close during the winter.  The 4 astroturf courts are open all year, come rain or shine, and it's amazing how quickly the water drains off and they are ready to play.  Astroturf carpeted courts are kinder to your knees and feet than your typical hard surfaces. All courts are looked after by our full time groundsman (who also looks after the Tennis Pavilion, Badminton Sports Hall, rooms for hiring when restrictions lifted (see link below), bowling green and croquet lawns).

Coaching & Lessons at Upton
Our Head Coach Dan Stickland has Junior Group lessons on a Saturday morning ably assisted by his coach Paul Maddocks. And if you are interested in tennis lessons give Dan or Paul a call, text or email - contact details: Coaching Programme

Room Bookings - not being taken for tennis pavilion
There are several rooms on site of varying sizes, including a sports hall that can all be hired.

We have introductory offers for all categories of membership, including a £99 membership fee for new Full Playing Adult members.  Please see our Join us page.  Our rates for new members are tapered depending on the date of joining (we have a common renewal date of 1st April for all members).

Building works - what the Sports England grant has been spent on
The bowls and tennis pavilion work completed in 2018. Please view this web page to view the works.

Perimeter fencing has now been erected, large security gates installed, and trees and bushes planted, making the Rake Lane car park more inviting.

Tennis at Upton Tennis Club
Saturday activities start with the junior one hour group lessons, with fees reduced for club members, starting at 9.30am and going through to 2.15pm.  These lessons are held on 3 of the 4 astroturf courts, and led by Head Coach Dan Stickland and Paul Maddocks.  For anyone wishing to play on a Saturday morning, the 4th astroturf court is available (together with the grass courts over the summer).

From 2pm every Saturday, adult members and stronger juniors meet for social tennis on all 4 astroturf courts.

From Monday to Friday, the astroturf courts are available to be played on all day and a number of social groups play doubles.

Tuesday evenings we have Wirral Summer League matches from 6pm.

On Sunday mornings from late September, typically at least 2 of the 4 astroturf courts will be in use from 10am until early afternoon for Wirral Winter League matches.  Upton have 2 Men's teams and 1 Ladies' team playing league matches most weeks.

Lack of ability is not a limitation to playing tennis at Upton. However, with the help of the club members and the club coaches you should have a great time being a member of our tennis club & your tennis will improve (we hope). Our membership range is from young children all the way through to members in their 70s and 80s.
